It's a long way to Akureyri...




Akureyri is Iceland's second-largest city, and after driving two-thirds of the way around Iceland, it was the first traffic lights we'd seen since Reykjavik.
The Northern-most botanical gardens are situated here. (See "flowers," above.)
The church was designed by Gudjon Samuelsson, who also designed the larger and more famous church that dominates the skyline of Reykjavik. In both cases, the main design element was based on the basalt rock forms as seen at Svartifoss. We appreciated the donations box just inside the church.
There was another rarity in this town--a vegetarian restaurant.
